
Category "City" 5th edition 2021-2022
The Award recognises a city, local or regional government whose policy, programme or project has significantly contributed to the promotion of cultural rights in the context of the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, and/or that have promoted culture as an important part of the caring system. The Award will be given to the local or regional government candidate that wins a competitive call process, open to direct or indirect UCLG members, as well as to any local or regional government collaborating with UCLG’s partner organisations.
Between 15 February and 22 April 2022, 101 applications from cities and local or regional governments from across the word were received.
The Best Actions were published in May 2022. The Jury will meet in June 2022 and following-up the winner(s) will be announced at the UCLG Executive Bureau.

The process is divided into two phases:
PHASE 1. The Jury analysed the applications received before 22nd April 2022.
In May 2022, the list of the Best Actions was announced. The finalist candidacies were invited to complete the Application Form in full, and will be automatically recognised as good practices with the labels “Innovative Sparks” or "Planning for Care".
PHASE 2. The finalists delivered their candidacies (that is, fully completed: with all fields of the Application Form) before 27th May 2022. The Jury is currently analysing applications.
The winner(s) will be announced in June 2022 at the UCLG Executive Bureau.

The winning city will receive a trophy produced by an artist from Mexico City, accompanied by a recognition signed by the Head of Government of Mexico City and by the President of UCLG. The winning city will be invited to the Award Ceremony, as well as to the UCLG World Congress, which will be held in 2022.
The Jury may choose to award a single candidacy or decide that the award will be shared by more than one.
The Jury may recognise some applications as “Special Mention of the Jury”. Winners, Special Mentions and Good Practices will be promoted worldwide by the Culture Committee of UCLG.
