In 2022-2023, the 5th edition of the International Award UCLG - Mexico City - Culture 21 recognises cities and personalities who have excelled in the promotion of cultural rights in the context of the Covid-19 crisis and post-pandemic recovery, and/or that have promoted culture as an important part of the caring system.
Candidacies from cities and local or regional governments and nominations from individuals have been received between 15 February and 22nd April 2022.
The Best Actions were announced in May 2022, under two labels: Innovative Sparks and Planning for Care.
The International Jury will held its final meeting on 9 June 2022. The final results were shared during the Executive Bureau of UCLG in Seville on 15 June 2022.

- 22 April 2022Deadline for receipt of Phase 1 applications (“City / Local or Regional Government”).
- May 2022Publication of the list of the finalists “Cultural Rights and the Covid Crisis: the 50 Best Actions”.
- 27 May 2022Deadline for receipt of Phase 2 final applications (“City / Local or Regional Government”) and nominations (“Individual”).
- 9 June 2022Meeting of the Jury and communication of the final results.
- 15 June 2022Announce of the winners in the context of the UCLG Executive Bureau 2022
- 27 September 2022Award Ceremony in Mexico City.
